Prayer - Julie's Dad

Request for Prayer
(November 2011)

Julie's request for fasting (Tuesday, November 14, 2010) : I have a special request…as you know, my dad finished Chemo for his cancer (chronic lymphocytic lyphoma) this last summer. We thought it was great…the cancer treatment was successful!

However, he is now sicker than he has ever been. His immunity is so low from the after effects of the chemo treatment– his body can’t seem to fight off ANYTHING. He’s had painful canker sores for a month now (that refuse to go away) and a lingering fever that has lasted over a week.

It’s possible his immunity may be severely compromised for the rest of his life…with little hope of medication that can help.

My heart is broken.

It’s my dad’s 63rd birthday this Tuesday, November 16. Would you mind joining me in a fast that day (fasting anything that causes you to remember to pray – food, coffee, sugar, TV, the internet, etc.) for the complete recovery of my dad’s immune system?

Prayers Answered

October 2011 - One Year Update

It's been almost a year since friends from across the world joined with us to pray for my dad's health. Since being back in the US, many people ask, "How is your dad?"

We say, "Great!"

His health is much improved from a year ago. The immunity stripped from his body from the chemo treatments has slowly been rebuilt now, and he is now taking monthly infusions that have been successful in boosting his overall health and immune system.

Thank you again for all you prayers! My father has said many times that your prayers last November was a turning point in his health. God is good!

Answered Prayers: It looks like your prayers have made a real difference!

My dad saw an oral surgeon on Friday who gave him a topical pain killer and steroid- this seems to be helping the excruciating pain in this mouth from the canker sores.

Also, his fever had been gone for several days now! This is a BIG answer to prayer.

Thursday, November 18, 2010 - Email from my dad in response to the many prayers...

Julie and Karl,

This is dad.

I have read many emails that came from your request.

All are encouraging.

Thank you so much for caring for me.

I am overwhelmed that so many are praying and caring.

I have significant pain but I work daily to speak into kids.*

I talk funny but the kids seem to get it.

I am weak but they are so helpful.

I run scared but Jesus runs within me.

I am discouraged but not without hope.

The race is now difficult but Christ has won this marathon.

Because the church surrounds me, I am not alone.

Many have endured, I am in good company.

This is hard, but Jesus is my life.

I have one verse, I have a thousand. They all say one thing, "Jesus in you, the hope of glory."

We are called to run the race, but sometimes it's a vertical thing, hard but upward.

Sometimes, the answers are slippery, but JESUS is not. HE is the ANSWER.

We must all run while resting in His PRESENCE.

I am tired now, talk later.

love, dad.

Note: If you would like to email my dad, here is his address: jensen@paulanddot.com

As I walked into our All Nations staff meeting today on my father's birthday, I began to feel the Lord was speaking to me about my dad.

One of the songs we sang:

Healing Rain is falling now
Healing Rain is falling now
I'm not afraid
I'm not afraid

We also talked about Isaiah 43, and I felt this was for my dad (see below).

November 16, 2010 - We've asked People Who Are Fasting Today to Send us Bible Verses...

From me (Julie)

A woman in our meeting today felt God was saying that those seeking healing would "pass through it" and thought it was confirmed when another person shared this passage:

Isaiah 43

1 But now, this is what the LORD says—
he who created you, Jacob,
he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

3 For I am the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I give Egypt for your ransom,
Cush[a] and Seba in your stead.
4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
and because I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you,
nations in exchange for your life.
5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you;
I will bring your children from the east
and gather you from the west.
6 I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’
and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’
Bring my sons from afar
and my daughters from the ends of the earth—
7 everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made.”

From Linda...

"Those who wait upon the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles". Isaiah 40:31

Let us wait on Him for everything we need.

From Shelly...

All of Psalm 71 because dad Paul is always witnessing to others and praising God and his life is an example to many (vs. 7). But more specifically Psalm 71:20-21 "You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again."

I love you my other dad Paul.

From Bethany...

Mr. Paul!

Don't know you but love you because I love Julie! She adores you. Its clear you have made an amazing impact as a father.

We are holding up the banner of healing, life, peace & joy over you here in Cape Town. As one who exists in pretty severe chronic pain going on 5 years, I can encourage you that His grace ( ability within you) is enough for you. His power is perfected in your weakness... made perfect in you ( II Cor)... and I must encourage you to search for contentment in weakness, its hard to find but I believe its there, via Colossians 3:1-3.

The scripture that came to my heart for you as you wait expectantly for healing is Proverbs 14:19 - The heart and mind at peace is life and health to the body. Thats why I exort you to wrestle for rest...its worth the fight! Be rid of striving.... healing never comes from striving in faith or earnestness. Rest in His sovereignty, Rest in his mighty right arm extended to you. Isaiah 43 too!

Continuing to stand for you not with you! (Imagine Moses sitting down while his boys held up his arms, so the battle could rage on). Feel free to take a rest and let those who love you do the labor. His banner of you is love, health, hope, peace & REST!

From Cyndi...

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises! Psalm 57:7 NASB

My heart is confident in You, O God;
my heart is confident.
No wonder I can sing Your praises! Psalm 57:7 NLT

Scription noted on one of Michael W Smith's songs on his "Worship" album "Forever". "Forever You are faithful, forever You are strong, forever You are with us, forever, and ever."

Also, I kept seeing your dad's name in there (Genesis 49:22-26). Thinking how your mom & dad have been fruitful, both spiritually and physically. And how their branches (you and your brother) are climbing over walls of injustice, religion, hatred, bondage and hopelessness.

22 “Joseph is a fruitful vine,
a fruitful vine near a spring,
whose branches climb over a wall.[a]
23 With bitterness archers attacked him;
they shot at him with hostility.
24 But his bow remained steady,
his strong arms stayed[b] limber,
because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob,
because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,
25 because of your father’s God, who helps you,
because of the Almighty,[c] who blesses you
with blessings of the skies above,
blessings of the deep springs below,
blessings of the breast and womb.
26 Your father’s blessings are greater
than the blessings of the ancient mountains,
than[d] the bounty of the age-old hills.
Let all these rest on the head of Joseph,
on the brow of the prince among[e] his brothers.

From Anne...

"....For God said, "I will never fail you, I will never abandon you." So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear...." Heb. 13:5-6

"Now may the God of peace- who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal convenant with his blood- may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him for ever and ever! Amen" Heb. 13:20-21

"O (Paul) Israel, trust the Lord! He is your helper and your shield. O (Paul) priests, decendants of Aaron, trust the Lord! He is your helper and your shield. All you who fear the Lord, trust the Lord! He is your helper and your shield. The Lord remembers us and will bless us. He will bless (Paul) the people of Israel... Ps. 115:9-12

"May the Lord richly bless both you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, who made the heaven and earth." Ps. 115:14-15

I pray your dad is encouraged and filled to overflowing!

From Shawn...

"Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers" (3 Jn 1:2)

From Ruth...

"I pray those white blood cells explode and reproduce. May God be your peace, comfort and strength as you all walk through this. I will be praying daily, especially today."

From Brooks...

Wow, Julie, I just came home for my "lunch" break with a Scripture on my heart that I wanted to share with you. And here I log on to find you asking me to share a Scripture! Matthew 5:6 (New International Version)

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

A short verse, but very powerful. As some of us experience the sensation of hunger and thirst today, may we stop to ask ourselves if we really do hunger and thirst after righteousness in the same reflexive and over-powering way we hunger and thirst for food and drnk.

From Jen...

I wanted you and Karl to know what a blessing it was to stand with you in prayer today. You know how as mommies we just cling to those moments where we see "the fruit of our labors?!" God used it to touch the kids' hearts and minds today also.

Each of our children chose something to fast and sweetly prayed for "uncle" Paul throughout the day. (I didn't expect them to fast, but they were insistent to do so! Out of the mouths of babes!) One encouraging word for Uncle Paul that I will share came from Hallie today. She was recalling the story of "how people wanted to just touch Jesus one time because the power coming from Him would heal them." Hallie prayed for "one touch" from Jesus and it would "heal Mr. Paul all over." Amen. One touch from your mighty hand Lord Jesus!

From Doug...

Psalm 92

1It is good to give thanks to the LORD
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
2To declare Your loving-kindness in the morning
And Your faithfulness by night,
3With the ten-stringed lute and with the harp,
With resounding music upon the lyre.
4For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done,
I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.
5How great are Your works, O LORD!
Your thoughts are very deep.
6A senseless man has no knowledge,
Nor does a stupid man understand this:
7That when the wicked sprouted up like grass
And all who did iniquity flourished,
It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore.
8But You, O LORD, are on high forever.
9For, behold, Your enemies, O LORD,
For, behold, Your enemies will perish;
All who do iniquity will be scattered.
10But You have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox;
I have been anointed with fresh oil.
11And my eye has looked exultantly upon my foes,
My ears hear of the evildoers who rise up against me.
12The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13Planted in the house of the LORD,
They will flourish in the courts of our God.
14They will still yield fruit in old age;
They shall be full of sap and very green,
15To declare that the LORD is upright;
He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
