Through Ubuntu Sports we coach and mentor U13 boys from
local townships.

Ubuntu soccer practice on this shortest
day of the year in South Africa
(this same day is the longest day of the year a few
thousand miles north in the US).
The kids get to play under the newly installed lights, as
the sun goes down quite early.
The cold, dark nights were always
tough as practiced ended.
There was never enough room to take home all the kids in
our pick-up truck.
We fit as many as we could, but most had to walk home in
the dark back to their township.
Julie mentors at-risk high school girls with weekly Discovery
Bible Studies and a dance class offered through a local
dance studio.
The Ocean View High School Discovery
Bible Study girls
(the "Divas" as they like to call themselves)
came over for our year-end pizza party.
Nadine memorized our "short story"
version of the entire book of Ruth. We are so proud
of her!
Jensen loves a party and convinced
everyone to play a game of Limbo with her!
We have really enjoyed our weekly Discovery
Bible Study with friends from Ocean View. They have become
like family to us!
Lovers of soccer, these boys were
good sports to throw the football around with Karl.
Julie and her Ocean View BFF's!
Karl and Charlize. We love these kids!
Claudine and Elriza won a trip to the "Waterfront"
- including lunch and dessert, as they were the first
to pay off their Sisterhood Job Skills class fees. Note:
Many of the students paid their fees with a micro-loan
to start a mini business.
As I walked with my friends through the Waterfront,
I beamed with pride and gratitude!
Elriza and Claudine, graduates of Sisterhood of Success,
are proud to share their testimony of how God has transformed
them from tik addicts (Crystal Meth addicts) wrapped
up in the cycle of abuse...to Jesus followers who are
changing their community!
Kate and Julie are brainstorming about ways
to employ disadvantaged women in a business that produces
cool hand bags, aprons, computer covers and bedding.
Kate has some great ideas for using
South African textiles to start a business
that combines modern African prints with hip home products.
Don't you love this South African fabric?
The current CPx class did a camp for Ocean
Views most at-risk girls and invited us to assist. It
was incredible! 10 girls attended the camp and each had
a one-on-one mentor.
We shared God's destiny for their lives
and prayed for each girl throughout the weekend! We...
- played fun games,
- pampered the girls with facials and pedicures,
- spoke to them about the realities of drugs and sex,
- offered a dance class,
- provided jewellery making lessons,
- mentored each girl individually,
- and built some amazing relationships.
Karl helped with ice-breaker games.
Julie was a one-on-one mentor.
Jensen joined in for their dance
lesson!
